How to sort collection of object?

What is the best way to sort my Basketball card collection?

I've got around 400 Vince Carter basketball cards (commons, inserts, and memorabilia), and I'm having a tough time on how to sort them. Do i sort them by year? Or by value? Or alphabetically? Kindly give your suggestions. Many thanks!!!

I generally sort all of my sports cards by year, sport & brand first (Upper Deck, Topps, etc.) ...... then seperate inserts & rookies from commons. The most valuable cards I will place in hard plastic, other key cards of lesser value I put in protective plastic sheets. Most commons I just keep in boxes sorted as mentioned above.
