What do you think, i personally am a bit of a hippy, not like long hair, smoke pot kind of hippy, just believe in hippy ideals. "Make Peace/Love Not War". I think peace can be achieved in this world, if we all work together.

Answer:
I'm from Hippie-Central (San Francisco) and love the idea of World Peace, however, I seriously doubt our ability to achieve lasting peace in the world. As long as there is hegemony, where G8 countries feel the need to exert their influence and power over other nations (for imperialistic purposes or otherwise) under the guise of spreading democracy, we will not have peace. As long as there is militarism, where the military is glorified and seen as necessary and permanent, we will not have peace. As long as ANY nation posseses nuclear weapons, we will not have peace. Also, our resources are limited, and people always want everything to themselves. In the past, we fought for land, we fought for oil. What about when we start running low on fresh water? Or any other kind of nonrenewable resource? Wars would be fought ove that. I'd hate to be a pessimist, but lasting world peace just does not seem likely.

The problem is that not all people feel the same way. Most blelive that power is obtained by force. Power is there objective, not peace. The only way world peace will happen is when J.C. comes back. Then only after much Travail. I's not gona be an easy ride, Bucko!!!! Get ready cause it won't be long. Feel free to email me, I'm just an old HIPPIE. (tee-hee) [email protected]

After we humans become extinct only then will there be world peace.

Even if we get there, it'd last a grand total of a nanosecond before some idiot comes along and decides he is bored and screws it all up. Tis human nature.

I think it has very, very little chance of ever happening. However - and that's the important thing - I don't believe that chance is zero. Therefore, we ought to strive for peace. Striving for peace, to me, is to give a meaning to humanity. War, the extreme of violence is the denial of reason and dialog itself and, by this fact, the very denial of the dignity of humanity. For those of us who understand this, it is essential we strive for peace. First, peace within ourselves and then, peace with our surroundings and finally, peace in the greater world. I believe it is essential to start with ourselves, because if we strive for peace while we are still within ourselves sources of conflict, we won't be able to provide others with a model for peace.

How's this: I believe that not only world peace POSSIBLE -- It has been as of NOW achieved! Consider: 1. Combat between major nations is, as of now, nonexistent. 2. Conflict between small nations, or between large and small nations, is so small as to be irrelevant. 3. There is no more wars, just police actions, and skirmishes with limited forces. 4. As of today, cigarettes kill more people then war 5. As of today, traffic accidents kill more people then wars 6. As of today, suicides kill more people then wars So basically warfare is so non-existent that you can ignore it, just as we ignore traffic accidents. So -- The world peace is achieved!

World is already quite peaceful. It just remains to happen in human mind... And when like people meet, it is convenient to put the label on "world" than to take courage and look within !

If you're a hippy then my hero, Gandhi ji was also a hippy. God bless the hippies. Unfortunately, I don't think world peace is attainable because religion has driven mankind apart. We kill in the name of religion and think we're better than others based on this.

World peace can never be achieved as long as their are religious radicals.

I think you have a nice thought, but I don't think anyone's vision of world peace is the same as anyone else's. I think better societies are achievable, as is more efficient resource distribution. In both cases a wide range of viewpoints could coalesce around a range of "good" outcomes. But world peace, not sure, as I'm not sure how you envision that. A perfect city, or a pastoral landscape, or?? and what would make it peaceful?
