What are the advantages of functional conflicts?

What is "Egotism" and what are "Ego Conflicts"? and why, how, how often happen ?

  • can one have minor "Ego conflicts" with others just throughout the course of a day? such as running errands,,maybe the person at the store or shop you are visiting acts arrogantly towards you and you react or feel ego conflicts? what are ego conflicts really and what causes these usually really? are these more "PERSONA CONFLICTS"? general resentments held towards certain types of people,,,attitudes conflicting etc? how common ?and please give any examples.. how can best handle these? and even if you act polite and are polite to other person...is it nearly impossible to not have your "Ego rubbed the wrong way " throughout the course of a business or work day? is this why people smoke and drink a lot usually too? and are MEN most often the ones with the biggest , most often conflicts in this area? anything can explain appreciated.

  • Answer:

"Egotism" is the inflated sense of one's own importance; "egoism" is the balanced sense of one's own importance, where one realizes how to psychologically accept the "self-evident truth that all men are created equal." An egotist doesn't accept this; he thinks he knows how to run the train, pilot the boat, and cook the steaks better than the people doing it. If the train, the boat, or the steaks belong to him, he has the right to think whatever he wants, but most people who want to run the train want to run everyone else's trains. Who, men or women? That's a psychology question that is more on the order of a scientific survey over a long period of time.
