What is molecular weight (mass?

How to calculate mass of glucose and molecular weight?

  • I know how to get the total molecular weigt in glucose. C6, H12, O6 C has 6 atoms, atomic weight 12 = 6 x 12 = 312 (molecular weight) H has 12 atoms, atom weight 1.00794 = 12x1.00794 = 12.095 O has 8 atoms, atomic weight 16 = 8x16 = 128 All together = 452.095 How do I figure the mass of glucose thats is accounted for from oxygen? Is there a certain formula I go by? Because I don't have one lol. If I have C16H32O2, how would I calculate the molecular weight of palmitic? But Palmitic acid is this >>> CH3(CH2)14COOH???????

  • Answer:

    6 x 12 = 72 12 x 1 = 12 6 x 16 = 96 total = 180 g/mol 16 x 12 =192 32 x 1 = 32 2 x 16 = 32 total =256 g/mol mass oxigen in one mole of glucose = 96 g % of oxigen = 96 x 100/180=53
