How To Have An Investigatory Project?

How can i conduct my observation in my investigatory project?

• my investigatory in chemistry is about the haircut policy in our school. it's like applying the school's problem into scientific method etc. etc. and i don't have any idea on how to start the first part of my study! help! thanks.

  I. The scientific method has four steps 1. Observation and description of a phenomenon or group of phenomena. (Meaning decide what you are going to look at. Actually, the school decided for you. Observe various styles and lengths of hair. You might have to count the people with short, extra short, pushing the boundaries, etc. You might have to come up with specific measurable lengths to fit each catagory.) 2. Formulation of an hypothesis to explain the phenomena. In physics, the hypothesis often takes the form of a causal mechanism or a mathematical relation. (Meaning you have to determine why you think certain students or groups of students follow or disregard the school's policy of maintaining hair at a certain length) 3. Use of the hypothesis to predict the existence of other phenomena, or to predict quantitatively the results of new observations. (Meaning, once you have decided that students with a certain way of thinking or behaving would follow/not follow haircut policy, then pick other students based on your "variable" and see their reaction to the policy) 4. Performance of experimental tests of the predictions by several independent experimenters and properly performed experiments. (Meaning that others can perform the same experiment and get the same results.)
