What are the functional groups?

What are the five differnt of hydrocarbons and their differnt functional groups?

  • I want to know is What are the hydrocarbons contain differnt functional groups that give thenm differnt properties.

  • Answer:

There are essentially three types of hydrocarbons: aromatic hydrocarbons, which have at least one aromatic ring saturated hydrocarbons, also known as alkanes, which don't have any double, triple or aromatic bonds unsaturated hydrocarbons, which have one or more double or triple bonds between carbon atoms, are divided into: alkenes alkynes Sorry I only found 3

Yay!!! I love chemistty!! it was my fav. class i took this year!! here are the five hudrocarbons!!! 1.Alkanes-single bonds 2.Alkenes-double bonds 3.Alkynes-triple bonds 4.Alkadienes-two more more double bonds 5.Aromatic-six carbons in a cirlce with alternating double bonds, Benzyne is a good example. Here are the Functional groups. 1. Carboxylic Acids 2. Amines 3. Alcohols 4. Ether 5. Ester 6. Aldehydes 7. Keytones 8. Alkyl Halides there ya go!! feel free to email me to ask me anything else!!!

there are way more than five.

There are essentially three types of hydrocarbons: 1. aromatic hydrocarbons, which have at least one aromatic ring 2. saturated hydrocarbons, also known as alkanes, which don't have any double, triple or aromatic bonds 3. unsaturated hydrocarbons, which have one or more double or triple bonds between carbon atoms, are divided into: alkenes alkynes The number of hydrogen atoms in hydrocarbons can be determined, if the number of carbon atoms is known, by using these following equations: Alkanes: CnH2n+2 Alkenes: CnH2n (assuming only one double bond) Alkynes: CnH2n-2 (assuming only one triple bond) Cyclic hydrocarbons: CnH2n Each of these hydrocarbons must follow the 4-hydrogen rule which states that all carbon atoms must have the maximum number of hydrogen atoms that it can hold (the limit is four). Note, an extra bond removes 2 hydrogen atoms and only saturated hydrocarbons can attain the full four. This is because of the unique positions of the carbon's four electrons.

there are alkanes that contain no double ot triple bonds and have the general formule CnH2n+2 there are alkenes that have a double bond some where in the structure and have the general formula CnH2n there are alkynes That have a triple bond somewhere in the structure and have the general formula CnH2n-2 there are many diffetent kinds of functionial for hydrocarbons but that the above ones are for the general linear hydrocarbons but the can but cyclic. General forumla for simple cyclic hydrocarbons (just containing single bonds) CnH2n Cyclic hydrocarbons are cyclic in nature can can obtain all of the above groups. There are also aromatic hydrocarbons But they must follow certain rules: Firstly they must be plannar in stucture and they must contain 2n(pie) + 2 electron. Where n is a interger ie 0,1,2,3,4 etc

aromatic: have at least one aromatic ring(a benzene ring)which is 6 carbons bonded together Saturated:don't have any double, triple or aromatic bonds Unsaturated:have one or more double or triple bonds between carbon atoms, are divided into alkenes and alkynes. I'm not quite sure what you're asking, but i hope this helps. Or maybe this, which provides the ratios for the formulas: Alkanes: CnH2n+2 Alkenes: CnH2n (assuming only one double bond) Alkynes: CnH2n-2 (assuming only one triple bond) Cyclic hydrocarbons: CnH2n
