I've been trying to get a 6-pack for 5 years, is it my genetics?
-
I've been reading up on this for years now, So i don't know if I'm going to recieve any new information, but I will try anyways. I've had a large amount of fat around my stomach since I was 12 years old, I don't think i've ever seen my six-pack my whole life. For years, I've been eating 6 meals a day, working out, changing routines, taking lots of protein, eating whole grains. My girlfriend thinks I am a freak for how healthy I eat. I definitely look healthy now, but I'm still trying to get that 6-pack, body fat is currently 15%. I listened to someone that said cut your carbs, increase protein, and do more cardio. I lost 10 lbs this way, unfortunately stayed at 15% body fat. I guess I just lost muscle. Please help! Are some people just not genetically capable of acheiving a 6-pack? Maybe I am just a freak and need to be happy where I am. Sometimes I think my 6-pack will magically show up if I get happy..

Answer:
If you want a six pack, you're going to have to lower your body fat by just a few more percentage points. To do so you'll need to find a good diet and combine it with resistance training (weightlifting) so that you don't lose muscle in the process. Below I've posted a couple of links. There's a post on a forum that will help you to understand how your body fat affects your appearance, along with links to a really good ab program and diet. Don't forget to lift weights for the rest of your body, too. I'm assuming you're already doing that.

The bad news: Yes, it can be genetics. The good news: More than likely, it's related to your diet if your body fat percentage hasn't changed. Sometimes our mental definition of "eating healthy" is not the same as our bodys ideas. It's a matter of honing in on the one thing that may be causing your inability to lose weight. Have you been to a nutritionist? i would suggest starting there. When it comes to abs, most all definition is made visible through DIET changes. Back to genetics, some people obtain six packs easier than others, you however are one of the lucky few where everything you do, and eat, counts. Bottom Line---Go see a nutritionist. Start by keeping a food log at least three days before your appointment. Everything you eat, including how much of it you ate needs to be recorded. The most important part is NOT changing anything until you complete your food log and have it analyzed. Things that also may help...do intervals of cardio, and weight training during the same workout. EX: 3 sets of 10-12 reps of (choose an exercise) The follow with an immediate run on the treadmill, or hop on the stairclimber. This helps to break down the muscle (required for rebuilding) all while boosting your metabolism.

Gotta do aerobic excercise to get some weight off your middle. Then you have to do isolating ab excercises that include you working your sides. Sometimes its genetics as to how muach you can develope them. Dont get too obsessed

Why so hung up on the 6 pack? I know its a sign of strength and sexiness, you are only 17, so take your time to get the 6 pack. To get a 6 pack, perhaps you can modify your routine, from exercise to diet change. Genetic do play a role, but not that much i don't think.

probably it's genetic..look at Arnold Schwarzenegger...he never had GREAT abs...and this was always known in body building circuits

Not everyone can have a great six pack - we all store some fat and for many the place we store that is on the stomach. At 15% bodyfat you are quite good condition but you could aim for 11-12% as this may be just enough changee to bring out those abs. Instead of cutting down on your food as it sounds like you have a good diet try and add another 20 mins of exercise a day - even a brisk walk is fine - 20 mins in the gym even better! Give this about 6 weeks and you will likley hit around 12% and your abs will shine!

My oldest brother when he was in the air force was as strong as any man in the service, but he didn't look it. It might just be in the genes....
