You have several books written by the Spanish commanders after the war and some of them might be in English. It would be a matter of finding out their names and check in google books or academic if they have titles available. There is also the sources of Spanish historians. Some of the similarities would have to do with perception of the conflict. The Spanish thought it would be an easy conflict for them being a European power and having bases nearby... against the Americans whose only military glory had been against Indian tribes. It turned out neither the Spanish nor the Americans in Iraq had it as easy as they thought.

Sure, the war in iraq was unconstitutional. The Spanish American war was constitutional. War is supposed to be declared by congress with the will of the people, now days the president can start wars without the people consent for 100 days. Also back then it was manifest destany we set out to own every thing from one ocean to anouther because it was our god given right to the land. The Spanish American War was supposed to over Spanish-control of Cuba in which America supported. Iraq was given many warnings to pack up and leave, or there would be war. Iraq also was a threat towards Saudi Arabia. At the time, Iraq had the worlds 4th largest army. Yes the U.S. military was bigger, but you have to remember our military is spread out across the world. So regionally, there was nothing to stop Iraq from crossing into Saudi Arabia. In fact the Iraqis did, at the battle of Khafji. Now the war ended in a crease fire after the U.S. liberated Kuwait from Iraqi occupation in 1991. That means we agree to cease operations, as long as they abide by certain conditions which they agreed too. If they violate those conditions, the war resumes. You don't even need to get more UN resolutions or permission since we have a VETO power and are permanent members of the UN. So the first time they violated any of the cease fire terms, we had the full legal authority to resume the war. And, even without the dispute about WMD and inspectors, Iraq constantly violated the cease fire agreements. So, for 8 years Clinton talked about "regime change" in Iraq. George Bush, Clinton, Gore, and the rest of the world believed Iraq had WMDs. For 12 years, Iraq repeatedly violated the ceasefire agreements by firing at coalition aircraft enforcing the no-fly zones, having Iraqi fighters fly into the no fly zone, throwing out UN inspectors into checking their WMDs destruction, and even continue to kill their own people. Now when we invaded in 2003, did we find WMDs? Some, not as much as we though we would, only enough to kill a couple of hundred thousand people, not millions. But sometime intelligence gets it wrong. In World War Two, we thought Germany was building an atomic bomb. They were no where close to building one, so we were wrong, that is not the same as lying.
