    the salaries arent too hot here in arkansas for civils usually. Recently. civils go for 39k to 45k out of college. Most places start you out low, then jump up a bit...plus have good benefits. Some will even pay for online or local grad courses in civil engineering after a year's service. Im one of the lucky few who stepped into a structural job out of school making 55k/yr....I worked as a laborer there 2 summers when I first started college. Some places start out higher if you intern with them while you're in college. As for top pay....get your masters then doctorate and can really bring in some cash if you want to as a professional witness. Other places pay increasingly mor efor the education.... THe bottoms line is...you might make more in time as a salesman.....but you'll never have to put that kind of effort into it all the time. Plenty of civils still going in the working world in late 60's around here just because they can...Try managing a Macaroni Grill at 70.....or selling cars.....

I graduated in Tennessee. I work with the Tennessee Department of Transportion and our salary to begin is about 37000/yr with passing the FE exam. After a year altogether my salary goes to 40k/yr. This is about ten thousand dollars a year less than I would expect to make in a private company doing structural engineering. Other states have a higher cost of living and thus will pay more. I know some of the people I graduated with started out at 48k/ year. Civil engineering is a great field to be in my area there is a shortage of civil engineers so it is easy relatively easy to find work.
