What faculty to chose between electrical engineering and computer science?

Which major should I chose, Electrical Engineering or Computer Science?

  • I am a high school graduate now and now I am confused b/w EE(Electrical Engineering) & CS(Computer Science). My interest is in CS(Computer Science or Software Engineering) while my parents want me to be an Electrical Engineer. So I need guidance.....

    Your parents, I am sure, want what they think is the best for you, but his decision should be yours. We spend so much time working that it is a real shame that so many people end up in jobs they do not enjoy, I believe that you should do something that you will enjoy. As for job security, you will have more of that as a programmer (Computer Science( than as an engineer. I am an electrical engineer with over 30 years experience and am now without a job. I can afford to retire, but I do not want to as I enjoy my profession immensely.. My son is a programmer (took EECS) and has never been without a job. I see a LOT of demand for good programmers and relatively little demand for EEs right now. If you want to be a programmer, I suggest EECS rather than CS because it gives you insight into how the hardware functions, which makes it easier to understand just what your programs do or need to do. You could do computer engineering which is a combination. But I would not do something because my parents want it. This is your future so my best advice is try a few different classes in the first year of college b/c maybe your favorite subject is something you have never tried before.

Your parents usually know whats best for you. They see all of your good and bad points. Do you trust them ? If so go with them. Purely personal on my part I think there is probably more scope in computers for the next 50 years but both are big fields. Do you hope to work for yourself or a boss?

It confuses me that engineer potentials don't know what field they want to enter. What do you like, forget thedamned money! Buddy, your life is based around happiness, thats success! I think you should sit down and have a talk with yourself. Whatever your decision is is what you will probably have to live with. Look man, I'm and E.E. and I love what I do. Make it happen for you whatever field you decide! Best of luck with your decision, just remember what I said.
