For example, a/b + c/d = (ad + cb)/bd a/b - c/d = (ad - cb)/bd So, 1) You do not have to think about the denominator - it's always bd 2) You do not have to think about the operator - it's plus or minus just like the original question 3) You do not have to think about the first factor of each term - they're just a and c The only thing you have to remember is to multiply each numerator by the OTHER denominator.
