JS Series style guitar wiring/grounding questions...?
-
I am building a custom axe in which the wiring is to resemble Joe's Ibanez JS series guitar. Any help on clarifying the manufacturer's diagram would be a help. The address for that is... http://www.ibanez.com/wiring/diagrams/2005/JS1000.pdf --- Where the green and bare cables from the pickup connect to the base of the TON pot I thought that they should be soldered together. They appear to have been soldered separately (not in contact). Is this proper? --- There appears to be a bare wire running between the VOL and TON pots as part of the grounding network. Again, I was under the impression that it would be best to keep the contact at the location and solder everything together. Does this work? --- (same as 1,2 really) The top left of the VOL pot where the ground from bridge is connected is not directly in contact. Does this mean that the ground wires need not be directly connected? Basically, is it ok to ground with the wires not directly connected? Thanks!

Answer:
Everything is correct. The reason for the arrangement of the green and bare is because thets how you get the coil split. the bare wire between the V and T is common and gives you more room on the back of the pot and also makes things quieter. No, the grounds do not need to be twisted together and connected. As long as they are attached somehow is fine. My Biggs 3 model has a very similar circuit with half the connections but instead of push/pull pots I use a mini switch. Much easier in my opinion.

OK . the diagram isn't that easy to figure out what's "correct" because it's only a wiring diagram and doesn't show how each pin is connected. From what I can tell (disclaimer) the green wires connect together and go to a terminal and the grey (bare?) wires connect together and go to a terminal. Basically this is the 2 poles of the pull switch for the coil tap and you're selecting between the two. The wires between the 2 pots and the wire to the bridge appear to just be connected to the metal case of the pots, which connects them to each other thru the case.
