Electric engineering questions.

Engineering Degree Questions?

  • I have some questions about two specific engineering degree/fields. Mechanical Engineering vs. Nuclear Engineering What do both jobs normally pay; Right out of College: 5-10 Years: 15+ Years: What degree is normally harder based on classes to obtain? What is the average cost of obtaining one of these degrees? Is the job field for Central America plentiful for both of these fields? Once you have a job is there a lot of lay-offs/short-term work? What type of jobs can you get from these degrees? In Highschool, should I take more Math oriented classes, or Science? (both?) How about Computer classes? (VB-Programming, C++) Do most people with "____" said degree have a hard life in terms of money/stress?

  • Answer:

I have mechanical engineering experience. Both are very tough, and can require qualification beyond degree level. Which ever you do, do not base it on money. You will not finish your studies if you don't like the content because they are such hard work. They are very different from one another. Pay is impossible to say. With a mechanical engineering degree you could end up in so many different fields - with an accredited degree you do a massive amount of maths. People always want mechanical engineers, and pay is generally quite high. You would need to build on a career- with an engineer experience counts for everything. If you wanted consultancy work you would need to do more learning far beyond degree. With mechanical engineering you will do a lot of maths and a lot of physics. These are the subjects to take. A mechanical engineers job is to apply maths to solve problems. It is not hands on! You would most probably study statics, dynamics, thermodynamics and thermofluid dynamics and materials. You should research these to see what it would involve. You could work in the automotive design industry, motorsport, robotics, accountancy/finance, aeronautical... the list is endless. Engineering is a good choice. The world couldn't run without us. Look around you-everything you see was designed/constructed by engineers. That gives you an idea of the amount of jobs you could go into. Good luck
