How to design a cable?

Electricians / Design Engineers -- Cable Types -- Twin & Earth and Singles?

  • Might seem like a simple question, but can anyone explain to me the following types of cable and their uses of application....? Twin & Earth (What it is and when itd be used) Singles (What it is and when itd be used) FP200 (What it is and when itd be used) Armoured Cable

  • Answer:

Twin & Earth is also called Romex in the US. It is flat plastic sheathed cable with hot and neutral running on each side with a ground wire in the center. It is used for normal house wiring in some parts of the US. Singles are single, plastic coated, solid or stranded wire available in various gages to be run through solid conduit or inside an electrical box. Used for home & industrial wiring. FP200 - cables are designed for surface wiring of fire alarm and emergency lighting. Armoured Cable, also commonly known as BX, is flexible metal sheath cable with wires and ground wire already inside. Used in place of hard piping (solid metal conduit) in some instances. The electrical code by me says it can't be exposed, whereas hard pipe can be.
