How to convert ohms to watts?

What is 5,000 ohms in watts, what is the formula for ohms to watts?

  • I know the watts and volts and some amps equations but what is the formula for ohms in a somewhat simplified term. i will try to figure the rest out. Thanks

  • Answer:

Ohms is a unit of measure of electrical resistance. Watts is a unit of measure of power. The two cannot be interchanged. Learn these two formulas and you can figure out any Ohms Law equation: Volts=Amps*Ohms Watts=Amps*Volts For example: If you wanted to know how many Ohms a 120V-60W light bulb had 60W/120V=.5A 120V/.5A=240 Ohms Now that you know the bulbs resistance you can determine how much current it would draw on a 12V circuit 12V/240 Ohms=.05A Or you could determine how much power it would dissipate on that 12V circuit 12V*.05A=.6W There are other formulas that allow you to plug numbers in to get what you need in one step, but these are really just derivatives of the two original formulas. You only have to memorize these two if you don’t mind extra steps. Option B: Print this chart and tape it to the back of your calculator http://www.kc9aop.net/Doc/link_pages/Ohms_Law.htm

Ohm is a measure of resistance (or reactance) Watt is a measure of power. They are different things - there is no formula to convert from one to the other. That said, the power dissipated in a resistor is P = E^2/R where P is in watts and R is in ohms.

Ohms is the unit of resistance.Watts for power. Both are different things. Now waits with resistance will draw current according to voltage only.
