A very annoying question about chemical engineering and petroleum engineering?

Bachelor's in chemical or mechanical engineering, then masters in petroleum?

  • I was wondering would it be logical to get a bachelor's in chemical or mechanical engineering and then proceed to get a master's in petroleum engineering? Is this a common thing to do? My school does not offer petroleum engineering so I was hoping I could get a bachelor's here and then go to school for petroleum elsewhere. If it is logical, would it be best to pursue a bachelor's in mechanical or chemical if the goal is to eventually get a masters in petroleum? Thanks!

  • Answer:

You need to find out which way you would have to take more courses in in order to get to the Petroleum Engineer MA. You may still have to get a Petroleum Engineer BA with make-up courses before they let you enroll in a Masters program for Petroleum Engineering.

Do you want to be more involved with the chemical or mechanical aspects of the petroleum industry? That should determine your major.
