What are some materials for egg drop?

Egg drop project with limited materials. 3 story drop.?

  • Can use following: 4 dixie bathroom cups or 3 tp rolls(empty), 5 reg. rubber bands, 1 sheet 81/2X11 paper, 5 index cards, 10 reg. straws, 1 plastic lid, 1 meter wire, 25 toothpicks, 1 plastic sandwich bag, 1 meter of string/yarn, 5 meters masking tape, 20 small metal washers, 25 packing peanuts, 1 sheet tissue paper, 20 reg. sized pipe cleaners, 20 craft sticks. Egg can not be wrapped, glued, boiled, colored or altered in any way. Need help fast. None of my designs have worked.

  • Answer:

Build a box out of the craft sticks and masking tape. Make it as rigid and sturdy as possible. Test a drop of this box alone, making sure that it survives the drop each time. After successfully building this indestructible box, you should make a suspension system out of the rubber bands and pipe cleaners by placing the rubber bands all in a row to form a thick band, and place these diagonally on your tested box. They should form something that makes a giant loop within the box. **Make sure the rubber bands are not too loose, or else the force of the egg's acceleration will still allow it to hit the ground.** After making this main suspension system, place your egg between the two long strips of the rubber bands and then lock the egg into place by wrapping pipe cleaners around the rubber bands near the egg's edge. This should keep the egg within this indestructible box, while maintaining a solid suspension system for it to dampen the force of hitting the ground. If my ideas aren't panning out visually for you, just remember this: *Build the indestructible container of any shape *Build a good suspension system to dampen the force of hitting the ground from 3 stories, probably made from the rubber bands in combination with the wire and/or the pipe cleaners. *Make sure the egg cannot escape the suspension system Feel free to email me at [email protected] if you want more specific or detailed drawings regarding your design- I'll try to reply promptly
