Using heavier gas for ion engines?
-
Am I wrong in thinking that an ion engine would have more thrust and therefor go faster if they used heavier gases?
-
Answer:
Well the reason xenon is used is because it has no charge and is ionized by bombarding it with energetic electrons. Its seems to be the most practical due to the lack of abundance of similar gases.
