How To Improve My English?

English is my second language. How can i improve my english?

  • English is my second language. I learned from just talking to my friend. He is native english speaker. I don't know if i'm doing good. I try hard to learn how to write better and read better. I never had anyone to teach me how to speak english. Just talking to my friend helped me a lot. I try to listen and pay attention to what my friend says. I also have all different kind of music CD. I listen to it and sing it. If i want to know what it means then i look up on dictionary to find out what it means. I tried hard. I never went to english academy. My father was really surprised by how i learned english all by myself. I don't know if i'm doing good. Just by reading my post on yahoo answer... Do you think my english skill is good enough? I know there is a lot more to go but I wanted to know from another person if I am doing good enough or not. Thanks a lot.

you are doing great, your english is really good with only a couple things that are correct but not the way most people would say them. as for english practice: try this website http://omegle.com/ and use the text chatting. it randomly pairs you with another person to chat with and most of the people that use the site speak english as their first language. because it is just random chatting people will be willing to talk about anything just to occupy their time (the website is mostly to avoid boredom). however i must warn you that there are quite a few creeps that just troll around screwing with people so just start a new chat if you run into them.

Hi, From your response on here i can easily tell that your english is quite good, its concise and flows well considering english is your second language. I think the best way to continue your learning and to improve is to articulate how to pronounce words and their meaning, begin to learn more difficult words so that your sentences sound more intelligent etc, also listening in on your friends conversations and interacting is a great way to learn also, you will learn a colloquial language which is much different to what you may learn in any book or language CD. So far you are doing very well, but i am not sure of your age, or your background... or your first language, so from what i have read you just need to improve on your word selection and more appropriate & intelligent words. :) hope i helped, keep up the good effort!!

GCFLearnFree.org has a Reading section that can help people learn English for free. It has word videos, games, interactives, and other activities where you can practice your English: http://www.gcflearnfree.org/reading It was created for native English speakers to help with adult literacy but ELL/ESL students have used it with success. It probably won't help someone completely learn English but it can help with practicing the 1,000 most common words in the English language. Hope it helps!

You're doing better than most, English is tricky depending on where you live and what dialect you're learning it's going to be different. Some things just won't be taught like how certain phrases just don't sound right but, mainly you're just having very minor problems with certain things. From your post I can point out a few phrases you used that sound odd just minor things, and how I would say them. "I learned from just talking to my friend" "I have learned from just talking to my friend" "Do you think my English skill is good enough?" "Do you think my English is alright?" "look up on dictionary" "look it up in my dictionary" "He is native english speaker." "He is a native English speaker" "I also have different kind of music CD." "I have many kinds of music"

You have done really well, and I think if you want more practice you can go to Japan-guide.com. No, you don't have to be Japanese or Englishpod.com. Japan guide is a great website to make more friends to help practice with, plus you can teach people what language you are fluent, in return. Englishpod i think is only for Japanese speakers (sorry if it is not your fluent language) Or even Mango languages.com great website for Tagalog, Japanese, Korean fluent speakers. Also if you don't mind me asking What nationality are you?

I am a pedo.... ;D

Before a vowel such as: A, E,I, O & U you use the article "an" with an exception for words that sound like they start with a vowel like hour. So it would be an hour. If it begins with a consonant then you just use "a". So you wouldn't say "I am a Asian" you would say "I am an Asian" or "I'm an Asian" for short.

Based on what you have written here, your English is very good. Since you learned to speak it by listening to a native speaker, your pronunciation should be good also. If you have an opportunity to take an interesting course offered in English (not a foreign-language course) your English will improve more. Good Luck.

You are doing very well. I would suggest that you continue whatever it is that you are going. I would suggest that you read a lot of books and write as much as you can. Also learn a new word everyday.
