How to find the author of a quote?

Can anyone find another quote including the author that restates this quote?

  • The quote is, "It is better to be thought of as a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." p.s. Please include the author!!

  • Answer:

I thought that was Confuscious, but have also heard Mark Twain and Queen Elisabeth as the quoted. ..so then I found a site that had A TON of other people who supposedly said it... Their solution: they said that should be considered a simple maxim, not attributable to any single person ...which doesn't make it wrong
