How to advertise in America?

America refers to itself as "Number 1". Do other countries advertise the same thing?

  • America is a fantastic place to live, but it isn't the only place in the world to live well. Europe, Australia, Japan, and many other countries have it really well also. Are they claiming to be the best?

  • Answer:

I've lived in nine countries. Some were first rate, others were Third World. Each and every one thought of itself as the absolute best place on Earth, and there were loyal citizens in every one of them ready to fight and die over that. It is time for those of us in the US who don't know any better to get over ourselves; history will not judge this selfish, high consuming, destructive society as 'all that.'

Im not sure where you are seeing that the US is referring itself as #1. Or, in what realm. But yes, other coutries do the same thing for different reasons. The US is highly regarded, or "ranked", in several areas such as number of education facilities, military size, etc. Depending on who you talk to, the US is also #1 in morality, but thats just one of the many areas where other countries would disagree, or believe that they themselves are superior.

I think you will find there are many countries, states, counties, cities and towns who all say that theirs is the number one place to live. They can't all be right! You take your choice!

I have never heard of a country advertising themselves as Number 2, so there you got!

In some ways, yes. What many people don't realize, is that "patriotism" and "nationalism" are devices a government uses to ensure it's survival. By promoting it's own philosophy of how it's citizens should live, and nurturing that ideal ..... a countrie's way of life remains stable. It is only when an "ultra-nationalistic" mentality takes hold that the people become violent, and that nation's citizenry becomes a threat to itself, and to other nations.

Well, a lot of americans perceive themselves as being #1. From where I sit we have far too many problems to gloat over our paltry few accomplishments. For example, we should halt our domestic spying programs, restore our bill of rights, begin to honor some of the many international treaties we have violated, such as the Geneva Conventions and the NNPT. We should restore habeus corpus and the FISA Court, and learn to respect the rights of others as well. We should quit luanching unprovoked wars on false pretexts, as we did in Vietnam and Iraq. And we should quit gloating over the few things we have not completely screwed up. No one likes that either. Jingoism and nationalism are words that describe the attitude you refer to.

You'll find that with tourist advertisements, all countries will try and set themselves up to look the best, it's all to do with showing people the best parts of the country all for the sake of their economy - not once would you see any slum areas in a commercial about Australia, but we have them abundant just as they are in every other country. I think america places more emphasis on the "Number 1" spot because of The Gulf War - 2" and trying to boost moral everywhere. Truthfully, no matter how grand they make a city look, I'm never tempted een once to go there, I prefer places such as the Philippines and Thailand, where there are more traditions than any one american with a bloated ego.
