  • I am doing a science project where i have to make a diagram and provide information on how photosynthesis and cellular respiration go together or something and with regular searches the diagrams i have found are so confusing and use so many big words i have no clue what their talking about. If somebody could please just explain the idea of photosynthesis and cellular respiration together and maybe even provide a diagram i would be so happy and thankful because this stuff is way over my head and i got to hurry up and do this.

Plants are crucial to aerobic life on earth! PHOTOSYNTHESIS is a synthesis reaction taking small inorganic molecules to make a larger organic molecule (and inorganic byproduct, oxygen. It occurs in the chloroplast of green plants (with chlorophyll pigment) and some photosynthetic bacteria: EQUATION in words, not formulas: carbon dioxide plus water makes glucose sugar (carbs) and oxygen gas (but it needs the sunproper temp, chlorophyll and proper nutirents in the soil to occur AEROBIC CELL RESPIRATION is a catabolic-decomposition reaction where a larger organic molecule (glucose) is broken down into smaller inorganic molecules (CO2 and H2O) and occurs in the mitochondria of the cell, plant or animal: EQUATION IN WORDS, not formulas: glucose (in the presence of oxygen) converts to carbon dioxide, water, ATP (energy molecule) and heat. This is AEROBIC, not anaerobic. Thus plants are able to "take care of themselves." They can make their own glucose from the sun, but then can do cell respiration from glucose they made from photosynthesis. We can't do photosynthesis, so we have to go eat carbs and are thus called heterotrophs. It's why plants are called autotroph producers. Anything that eats plants or animals is called a consumer or heterotroph.

Think of it this way: Photosynthesis is a way of taking water and carbon dioxide, and turning them into sugar and oxygen by using the power of sunlight. That's why photosynthesis can't take place in the dark. Cellular respiration does the opposite- it takes sugar and oxygen, and turns them into water and carbon dioxide, and in the process it releases energy. The particular type of sugar involved in these two processes is called glucose, which is not quite the same thing as table sugar, but I doubt you'd be able to tell the difference if you tasted them both.
