What effect might a molecule that interferes with the action of carbonic anhydrase have on your body?

  • Answer:

Carbonic anhydrase catalyze the rapid interconversion of carbon dioxide and water into carbonic acid and bicarbonate ions. It help the transport of oxgen molecules from lung to red blood cells. If the molecule interferes with carbonic anhydrase, I guess the level of oxygen in the blood will drop. If you don't get enough oxgen supply to the brain, you may faint, your heart may stop beating.

Other answers

Any drug which inhibits Carbonic anhydrase , for eg Mafenide which is a Sulfonamide cause Acidosis due to which there is hyperventilation, ie it increases the level of CO2 inthe blood and the exhange of air is poor, this results in a reflex increase in the rate of respiration, so that the body can get rid of excess CO2
