    The interesting thing about radiation is that it's a cause of cancer and also a therapy for cancer. Radiation results in mutations in your DNA which cause faulty replication and abnormal proteins to be synthesized. Often times when you accumulate multiple mutations you wind up with a cancerous cell. On the other hand, high dose radiation when localized can cause enough damage to a cells DNA to destroy the cell. With radiation therapy for cancer they try to focus the energy on a spot with the hopes of obliterating just the cancer cells.
