How does hair know to start growing again when you shave?
-
Hair stops growing at a certain length, when it reaches full length the hair follicle switches to rest mode, how does the hair follicle know to start growing again when you shave?
-
Answer:
The hair is made up of dead cells. When our head is shaved, the dead cells get deposited, and enclosed in a horny substance called keratin. Now when we shave our heads, it is quite noticeable, any growth of hair that is. But once we get a lot of hair, changes in the length of each and every hair is not that noticeable. Hence, the hair does not stop growing, unless the hair follicle, does not take in any more dead cells. And that is one of the miracles of nature!

Hair never stops growing. There'as just a specific life limit to a hair follicle (about 3 years). If the follicle dies, the hair falls off, thus eliminating the hair.

that is because of our body restriction...as you know that we have descended from ancestors that were common to the origin of apes...with evolution ...hair on man's body was not only reduced but certain hormones control the hair growth of the body...that is...after a certain length follicles come to rest mode as an action of some inhibitory hormone.. hair growth is influenced by the gonads ie.. sex organs... that is why women have less hair than men (in men hair growth is more due to expression of male character)....and as for the shaving part...te hair strands get nutrition from the part where it is embedded and so hair grows due to the addition of more dead cells(since hair is made up of dead cells) ...as any other part of your body....

this is because the cells underneath the skin divide and reproduce so forming keratin, a horny substance. This continuous growth of cells causes the hair to grow.
