Do dragonflies prefer lentic or lotic environments?
-
Specifically, where would larvae be more commonly found? Or, does it depend on the particular dragonfly species? A reliable source would be helpful, but an informed general answer is ok. Thanks

Answer:
It depends on the dragonfly species. Some dragonflies prefer lotic habitats (streams and other running water). Some dragonfly species prefer lentic habitats (lakes, ponds, etc.). You can find dragonfly nymphs (Odonata) in both streams and ponds.

This source says that they prefer standing water, but I can tell you that my environmental science classes have collected dragonfly larvae from both streams and lakes as part of our studies. They have a low pollution tolerance.
