How has the theory of evolution helped in conservation efforts?

  • I'm looking for ways in which evolution has aided both the knowledge of wildlife conservation (what we can do) and also specific conservation efforts (what is being done). Also, is there any vital aspect of conservation which we would not know about if the theory of evolution did not exist?

    Sounds like you have a good grasp of the subject matter just from the question.Without the TOE we wouldn't understand the niche theory,that is each species requires different habitats and is totally dependent upon the environment.Some species over come diversification environmentally thru evolution ie; the polar bear is really a grizzly that adapted.Specific efforts to provide safe zones for migratory animals and nonmigratory species have came about with this understanding.

The theory of evolution shows survival of the fittest. However, due to human interaction and humans throwing off the natural balance of survival, we have caused the extinction and near extinction of animals that would have otherwise survived. So, conservation of those animals was seen necessary since it was our fault they were dieing.

As when evolution happens it keeps organisms with good characteristics alive, while those with bad ones die so the organisms which survived( good characteristics) breed together so all the offspring are adapted to survive and like this.

Zero, zippo, nada! Survival of the fittest means that when a species goes extinct because it is less fit, another species will fill the void in that niche.
