How to make an animal and plant cell model?

How do I make a 3-D plant or animal cell model?

  • does anyone have any ideas on how to make a 3D cell model? it doesn't have to be realistic, as in like... a real cell, but it should have things to represent all the parts. so, are there any scientifically accurate, asthetic, innovative, animated and colorful ideas or something done in the past? i don't really want to do a clay model... an idea i read on the internet was to get a ziploc bag and add karo sryup and small candies for the cell parts.... is there anything similar to this that is a little more complicated and impressive looking? or, if i do just make a model, what materials can i make it out of other than clay? i'm open to any ideas as long as i can finish it in a 2 day period. :-)

I used gelatin (the clear, unflavored jell-o stuff). I let it set about halfway, then was able to slide pieces of fruit, crayons, marbles, whatever, into it at different places and heights. If you set the gelatin in a square plastic dish, you can call that your cell wall as well. The trick is checking on it every couple minutes until you're ready to put the organelles inside.

I had the same assignment and I recieved an A++ (104) :) Well at stores like Joannes, you can find styrofoam spheres. Buy one in whichever size you want it, althought I prefer medium. Cut it into half, and use one for animal cell and one for plant cell. Make sure plant cell is all rough. Cut the sphere so it has some flat surfaces. Plant cells are very geometrical. It is very amateur to use clay or other structures like that to design cells that are 3D. So this is what I did: Since I have the semisphere, the flat surface would be like looking into the cell by cutting the cell into half. Instead of pasting stuff on here, cut into the styrofoam with a knife and make shapes or specific things like... Endoplasmic Reticulum, Mitocontrion, or Lysosomes ect. Use paint-markers or regular markers, or even paint itself to color in those dug up areas, and then you can identify the parts by making a color-key. To make the working process easier, you can heat your blade using fire. It will work extremely well on styrofoam making your project look more professional. Yeah... Um... I hope you get the point :P Also, color the membrane of the cells. Animal cell to like... brown. and plant to green. Buy 2 styrofoam spheres just incase. G'lucks!

I remember making a plant cell model last year in science... We used those green floral foam things that people use to stick decorative plants in pots and stuff (you can find it at Michael's). The foam is really soft, so you can carve it into a desirable shape and stick anything in it. And it's green, so that is one thing you don't need to worry about. So just get the green foam and stick things in it to represent the cell wall, nucleus, yadayada... Hope it helps!

Use jello, and put in fruit cocktail. Assign the cherries, grapes, etc. to a specific component of the cell.
