Is menstrual blood different than regular blood in your body?

How much blood do we have in our body?

  • I was curious because every month every woman goes through their menstrual cycle and wanted to know how much blood each individual have. And 2) How much blood do we loose from our menstrual cycle because it looks a whole lot to me. And 3) Why can we smell the blood while we have the menstrual cycle? If I can smell myself can others smell it too? And is the smell normal?

  • Answer:

    People in general have about 5 or 6 pints ( I learned it last week now I cant remember). Women lose about 1 cup of blood during the menstrual cycle. You can smell the blood only when it hits oxygen, that is because it breaks down even more then, its normal to smell something because the blood is so rich. I dont think others can really smell you. Can you smell when another person has their period? Not usually!

JANELNMOORE HAS IT RIGHT...YOU MUST BE A CLEAN PERSON BECAUSE AFTER A BIT...THE BLOOD DOES START TO STINK AND THAT'S NORMAL... IF YOU CAN SMELL IT OR IF A PERSON IS NOT SUCH A CLEAN PERSON... ANYBODY THAT GET'S CLOSE ENOUGH THEY WILL SMELL IT TO... IT ALSO DEPENDS ON WHAT KIND OF FEMININE PRODUCT YOU WILL USE...LIKE THE PAD'S OR THE TAMPON.

We do NOT loose a whole cup of blood during menstruation! The normal amount for most females is between a couple of spoonfuls to maximum 1/2 cup. The exact amount changes from period to period and differs for different women.
