What is the possibility of being pregnant while using birth control pills and having the guy wear a condom???
-
I'm supposed to get my period today or tomorrow...I'm on the pill but we still always use a condom every time for extra protection. Still, every time of the month when my period is supposed to be coming, I get really worried about being pregnant. Am I'm being overly concerned...what are the odds that I could be pregnant one of these times?

Answer:
I just went to the doctor Monday for information on birth control. The information my doctor gave me said that the pill is 95% - 99% effective. Accompany that with the fact that he wears condoms and I'd say your chances of getting pregnant are very slim. Don't worry so much, the fact you let yourself get stressed out may actually cause you to be a day or so late. If you want even more assurance you might try the Depo shot. You don't have to worry about missing a pill, you get it every three months and it's supposed to be 99% effective as well. You might also talk to you doctor about the effectiveness of birth control. He/she would definately be able to give you more accurate advise and may have more suggestions for you. You may want to ask if any medications reduce the effectiveness of birth control and simply become more informed on the matter. Abstinance is of course the only 100% guarantee that you will not get pregnant, but we all know that is not always the preference. You can only do your best. The more information you get on the subject of birth control, the better your chances of preventing an unwanted pregnancy, Best Wishes

I don't know if this is how it works, or if i even have my facts straight, but I believe that birth control pills are like 99% effective, and condoms are another 99% effective, so isn't that like 198% effective? but i'm on the pill too, and i never used condoms. lol, i really don't understand his whole chance thing, but clearly if something is 99% effective that means 1 out of 100 women will become pregnant....haha i haven't yet, and i wouldn't worry about it. i'm sure you're totally fine hun.

If your bf was wearing a condom and you are on the pill you are definately being a little too concerned. Relax. The chance that you are is so slim it's not even worth worrying about it.

Im not sure what the exact possibility is..but I know it is rare. BUT...I did get pregnant with my first son using the birth control pill and a condom....but I believe that this is uncommon, as long as you are taking the pill at the same time everyday, and that the condoms are not expired, or have no holes.

a 1% chance because your on the pill and he used a condom so you shouldnt have anything to worry about.

With the double protection, your chances of getting pregnant are very, very slim. I've heard of people getting pregnant while on the pill. My daughter and her husband did. I've heard of condoms having tears or pinholes in them and someone getting pregnant. But using both, it would be such a remote chance that I don't think you should waste your time being worried about it.

the odds are very very slim.....there is always a possibility but you are just getting anxious....if you have real concerns talk to you gynecologist....even just to ease your concerns

We too use that sort of protection, as well as watch the calender for ovulation days. Even thought the pill is supposed to stop ovulation all together, nature still has a way of happening. I too would get skipped days and start earlier or later. Sometimes if you just started or if you just got a new partner the you could have hiccups in your menstrual cycle. I am not saying you cannot get pregnant but it is unlikely. Try the calender method too, and don't worry you should be fine. Hormones are a strange thing that doctors still get confused about.

Probably about 1% or less, as long as the condom doesn't split. Don't worry until you are about a week late, 1 or 2 days is nothing.
