How did Bat Girl become the Oracle?

I know she was in an accident - paralized - but what happened? Websites? Pictures?

Barbara Gordon is one of the only female characters in the Batman Universe. I used to only follow the Animated storyline, but I've started buying the "Birds Of Prey" comic books. For those of you who don't know, Barbara Gordon was the first Batgirl in Gotham. Her age changes depending on the storyline you follow, but she is typically described as a red-head with glasses and green eyes. She is also incredibly intelligent as well as a computer whiz. Babs's, as she is typically called, career as Batgirl is extremely different as is her relationship with Dick Grayson. In the animated storyline, she is still Batgirl and her relationship with Dick/Nightwing is rather ambigious. However, in the comics, Babs was paralyzed by the Joker. Trapped in a wheelchair, she has become Oracle. Oracle's identity is unknown to most of the JLA and the rest of the superheroes. They depend on her to ferret out information of any kind. Oracle and Nightwing have a romantic history, but due to Oracle's hang-ups about her paralyzation, they're currently in a stage of romantic angst. Every step forward leads to two steps back.
