What the heck lol! Whats it mean lol?

Could someone PLEASE tell me what the bejimminy 'lol' means. I was told it meant 'laugh out load' but people seem to use it in the middle of sentences, at the end of sentences lol, where it doesnt make sense!!! I need to know. Its driving me crazy.

It always used to mean "Lots of love" but the pay as you go texters who need to abbreviate everything have hijacked it to mean "Laugh out loud". When used in emails or any written form other than text messages it is simply the writers way of saying that what they are trying to convey is humorous, being unable to write properly and structure their sentence so the reader would know this already.

It's either laugh out loud or lots of love, depends in what context you use it.. When that happens, it means that they are luaghing about what they're saying..
