You can avoid it if you only accept PayPal payments. If you wanted to accept checks or money orders they would have to have a mailing address to send them...but you could always rent a P.O. Box for that purpose...at least they would not have your physical residence address.

yes they will see your address and phone number, i use ebay alot and i paid for an item and didnt receive it and they gave a dodgy address, so lost most of my money

Yes they can. You have to ship them the goods and they need to be able to return defective items. I wouldn't buy anything from someone not willing to provide me with assurance they are legit.

It depends if you say you accept money orders than yes, most definitely. There are ways to avoid it, but a lot of times your customers may need this information. As well as your phone number.

the only time i have ever known sellers addresses is when i pay by cheque, so if you avoid taking this payment option then buyers wont know your address, you may have a problem though if something needs to be returned to you.

You have to register your address with e-bay and when the sale goes through your address is given - not surprisingly - to the buyer but not to anyone else. There is little risk in that I think unless you are selling something silly
