How do I sell ideas?
-
Assume that I have had a fantastic idea. I can't afford to Patent it, and even if I did, I couldn't afford to fight an infringement case in Court anyway. What methods are there for selling my idea (IPR) to a company which could use that idea commercially, or for partnering with a company to get the idea turned into reality? And how do I avoid getting ripped-off by any company I contact? A non-disclosure agreement goes some way, but may still have to be fought in court, so I'm back to square one. I'm UK-based. (I've already checked-out 'business-idea.com' and it not what I'm looking for).

TO PROTECT YOURSELF I THINK YOU WILL BE FORCED TO PATENT THE IDEA. THE WAY THINGS ARE TODAY EVEN WITH A PATENT, YOU WILL BE SAFE. WHEN I WAS IN ASIA I SEEN A HONDA/KAWASKI/YAHAHA MOTORCYCLE AND NONE OF IT WAS MADE OF ANY ORIGINAL PARTS FROM ANY OF THE ABOVE LISTED MANUFACTURES

A full presentation to the company you want to develop the idea along with a signed letter of confidentiality. As long as they agree to the means in which you'll be paid you should be all set. You could be paid by a one time payment, a percentage of profit or even a per unit dollar amount. Up to you and the purchaser of your idea. By law, they can not duplicate your idea. However, it's possible they could take YOUR idea and modify it just enough to call their own so be careful !

Apparently, the Patent Office themselves supply useful information regarding this area. Sash.
