How do you get to world 9 in Super Mario Bros Deluxe?

In Super Mario Bros. 3 for Nintendo 1, How do you get the flute in level 3 of world 1?

  • I've been trying for a few weeks now, and watching the time trial of the game, but still don't get exactly how to get this flute. It seems simple, but after trying several times, it is beginning to bug me. I'd like to be able to beat the game in under 1 hr 30 min, but in order to obtain a second magic flute, I have to go through world 2 to get it. Also, are there any other flutes between the one in the first castle on world 1 and the one in the upper right hand corner of world 2?

  • Answer:

There are 3 flutes in Super Mario Bros. 3. The first one in Level 3 of World 1. To get that you must run to near the end of the stage, you'll find a large white platform. Press and hold down while standing on it until you fall through the block. This allows Mario to walk in the background (which also offers protection from enemies if you hide behind something) for a brief period of time. Now run towards the goal, you'll notice that Mario will go behind it now. If you keep going you'll enter a mushroom house that contains a warp whistle. The 2nd warp whistle (the only other one you need, there's no point in going for all three) is located in the fortress of World 1. You'll need a Super Leaf to become Racoon Mario for this one - you may either use one from your inventory if you have one or from the question mark box at the end of the first room inside the fortress provided that you're big (Super Mario - not regular Mario) otherwise it'll only yield a Super Mushroom. Stomp on the dry bones enemy to temporarily get him out of the way and run back and forth until you have enough running power to fly. (If you have a P-Wing, this will make it much easier for you. Simply fly over the whole stage.) Upon doing so, fly up, around and OVER the brick ceiling by the door. Keep running into you enter a hidden room. From there you'll find a treasure chest containing the second warp whistle. If you still want the third one, even though there's no point to it, you'll need a hammer to break the rock at the very top right-hand corner of World 2's map. You'll have to defeat a set of Fire Brothers to get it. The battle can usual get nasty for an inexperienced player so having a Fire Flower, Hammer Bros. Suit (makes Mario immune to fire if he ducks) or a Starman handy would be recommended. Once you got at least two of the warp whistles, you use the first one to get to World 9, the Warp Zone. Use the second whistle INSIDE the Warp Zone to go immediately to World 8. From there, you're on your own. Good luck and have fun.

To get the flute in World 1-3, look near the end of the level where there are a lot of Koopas - and a flying goomba that hatches out the smaller goombas that slow down your movement speed. If you're playing the NES version - there is a white block that has a patrolling Koopa walking ontop of it. Get onto that white block, making sure to get rid of the Koopa - and once you're on it, hold down on your directional pad for a few seconds, until you fall through it. Once you fall through it, you'll be behind the level's scenery - avoid any enemies, as they can still hurt you, and run to the end of the level. You'll slip behind the black area where the level ends, and walk into a hidden door. There, you'll be inside of a Toad house, with your newly claimed flute. Now - for the world 2 global flute, you'll need to save the hammer that you get from the patrolling Koopas on the world map. Once you reach that furthest, right hand corner of the map - use the hammer to destroy the stone that you'll be standing beside. You'll create a lane to the third panel of World 2's map, where the there is a Fire Koopa and a special Toad House. The Toad House contains frog suits, and the Koopa is holding your flute.

You have to beat the level half way. Stand on one of the white pillars coming up from the ground (there's only about 2 of them in this level). Duck down and stay ducked for about 10 seconds. after that run off and run towards the end of the level. Don't kill anything. You'll see that you should be going behind objects (but not enemies). Keep running at the end of the level towards the finish. As you can see in the video, you should go behind the black screen. Go as far as you can and you will get the key. Your welcome.
