What happens when you prestige in modern warfare 2?

In COD Modern Warfare 2 what happens to your kills on your weapons when you enter prestige mode?

  • I am considering entering Prestige mode in COD: Modern Warfare 2. I understand that all challenges, weapon unlocks, etc reset back to level 1 but what I want to know is, if you got 100 kills with a weapon before prestiging, does the kill count per weapon reset as well? Or is this carried over? Can anyone who has Prestiged help me?

    Ok everyone in here is wrong, except on guy is sorta right. Ok you DO LOSE everything but your titles, emblems and accolades. But when you prestige for your first time you unlock a new set of challenges. These challenges stay with you from this point on NO MATTER how many times your prestige. So say you have your Scar and you have 238 kills with it. Well next time you prestige ( your second time ) you still will have 238 kills with it. These challenges are highlighted in bright flashing green to show you that they will stay with you at all times. I know this. I am on my 4th prestige and have FULLY finished 6 guns, plus rockets and a few others. Also stuff like sentry gun kills, ac-130 kills, harrier kills, etc all stay with you during your entire time of your prestiges. That means ( since guns, killstreaks etc, kills. They all go to 2500 or something like that ) you will always have the same amount for that weapon as you get kills with it. SO lets say your about to prestige for your 2nd time and you have 238 scar kills, 461 famas kills, etc then they stay with your each time. In order to understand it better you'd have to do it yourself and see. I say prestige AT LEAST ONCE so you can unlock ALL the challenges and get more stuff out of it.

you lose all kills by ur guns when u first prestige

yes it resets but you get better challanges and stuff so you are better off doing prestige

When you click prestige you loose everything. I think its stupid. You have to start from the beginning but your in prestige mode.

yiou lose everything including non-weapon challenges but you get an extra class and you keep all of your titles and callsigns as long as getting a new one of each.

you lose everything im afraid, apart from where u prestige onto the next prestige level where u have veteran and master challenges, u dont lose them

I do recomend you going into prestige, because after a while of being lvl 70, you can be lvl 70 on the next prestige, Also good guns such as scar-h, don't take alot of work to unlock... so why not?

TO make this an easy answer yes you do. You lose your main challenges every time you prestige but when you prestige you gain 2 new challenges that never change. The 2 new challenges that never change are Prestige kills and Prestige Headshots for the weapons. The kills challenges are at 500, 1000, and 2500. The headshots are at 250, 500, and 1000. But all normal gun challenges are reset.
