Do video games like "Grand Theft Auto" cause violent behavior?

" I think violent people just play violent video games, so of course the correlation will be there.

    I think violent videos game have nothing to do with it. I have been brought up in a stable , loving family and i play video games like gta and I would never even think to hurt , kill someone as it's just plain wrong and violence doesn't solve anything. I believe the soure of childrens anger is from being influenced by parents. If your parents are bad and don't treat you with love and do bad things then since your growing up with that atmosphere surrounding you 24/7 your likely to be a mirror of them and since you couldn't really say thats why , it's being blamed on violent video games. Probably the child who grew up with bad parents played a violent video game a thought they would do things to people that the game does because they would think it's OK because of their parents.

i think the people who use the "video games made me do it" excuse just want a way to get out of trouble and the people who hate video games see this as a chance to get rid of them so they start using stupid propaganda and scare tactics

People have been adjusting this theory for years, saying that violent music, movies, television and now video games are responsible for school shooting and violence, as well as adverse or unwanted behavior by children. The problem is that if a child is young enough to be influenced by the games they're playing, it falls on the parent's heads to monitor. Grant Theft Auto, God of War, Metal Gear Solid, all the other games generally tagged for their violent portrayals are getting the exact same treatment as Terminator and Mission : Impossible did ten and fifteen years ago.

I really think that video games do not provoke the violence, because the kids should have enough since to not go out and do the things that they do in the games. I actually believe that because of these video games, LESS kids go out and do these things. This is because these messed up kids (or normal) get to do the things that they've always wanted to do, without actually harming anyone. This helps to keep kids from doing things that would hurt themselves or their environment.

I'm extremely skeptical about supposed links between video game violence and actual violence. Even the studies that do show some correlation show an increase in subjectively judged aggressive or violent attitude rather than actually leading to violent crimes.

No. I am tired of people putting the blame for their spoiled brats behavior on video games. If they play 16 hours a day everyday then possibly but other than that no.

Not nessasary,I play a lot of violent games but I certainly didn't become violent after that.It may cause a player,depending on the the game to imitate what he/she played in game.One of the first bad cases was when a few guys(one of them) actually shot a few people in a college/university after he played the hit game "Doom" or something wayyyy back in the middle age of video gaming history. Well,I also agree with you.Only violent people should play violent games.Thank god ESRB is there.I don't wanna think what the gamers will be like if ESRB weren't formed back then.
