Do people die from playing world of warcraft?

  • I remember somewhere on the news few years ago that quite a few kids in korea and america died from addiction from world of warcraft. Can you get addicted to world of warcraft easily? i nhave never player online games like that apart from call of duty 4 online.

    Yeah, happens all the time. People get so into the game they forget to eat, drink, and sleep, and eventually their bodies just shut down and they die. I also read something about a kid who died because his parents were addicted to playing and just forgot about him. I've never played WOW but I used to play the Sims and 8 hours or so would pass before I looked up at the clock. I can see how it would happen, although I can't understand not sleeping for 3 days straight...wouldn't your eyes start to shut? Wouldn't you need to pee?

They didn't die from the game itself. They were so addicted to it they never ate or drank, which basically led to dehydration. I don't really think its that addictive. I've played for about 3 years, and i've never felt a sense of addiction. I mean its fun, but not up to the point where it consumes every aspect of my life.

I would say yes, when their wives or girlfriends get sick of being completely ignored for this game. I've seen it happen multiple times, it's very addictive for some people. All they want to do is play it. I dunno why you would want to play something that made you tied to your computer so much, and kept you from interacting with people in a face-to-face kind of way. Im sure others play it - and have not been addicted to it - but the nature of the game is that you're always on it, always logged in.

there have been a few cases in the past of people's deaths being contributed to WOW.... but it was from a lack of food (not from the game specifically) there was a case last week of someone playing 72 hours straight from New Zealand and passing out requiring immediate medical attention
