How to make crayons for a project?

• i'm working on a project for school. its a poetry project, and my theme is going to be childhood. for the visual part, i wanted to make oversized crayons out of paper or something and write the poems on them. (no bigger than about a foot) i need ideas for how to make these. either origami, or paper towel rolls, etc. if anyone can help me out, i'd love you forever! thanks

  This time of year, see if anyone has any fat gift wrap rolls leftover. They would be ideal. If not, paper towel rolls might have to work. Of course, you could always get posterboard and roll it yourself. To make it curl better, slide it over the edge of a table or counter top with a little pressure. Once you have your roll secured, cover it with colored construction paper. Make a cone out of the same color construction paper for the point of the crayon. Make snips about 1/2" long and 1/2" apart all around the bottom edge of the cone. Fold these and glue them to the roll. Put the paper cover on after this, so you'll cover everything nicely.
