How can I make a hole through a stone or crystal?

How can I make a hole in a stone without any special instruments?!?

  • I need to make many small holes in a stone. What is the best tool to do it?

    It depends on how hard the stone is, but your best bet would be a diamond tipped drill bit, found at your hardware store. The way to do it would be to if at all possible to put the stone into water and very slowly drill your hole. I know that water and electricity doen't mix but going slow won't splash up the water. If you are hesitant with this method just keep putting a small amount of water where you are drilling so that your bit doesn't burn up.

There is no good tool for this. You could use a drill, but it would probably mess up your drill bits.

If you get really really board you can always attempt to do what the Native Americans did. Take your stone and a needle from a cactus (in this case a needle may work). Find some very very fine grain sand, work the sand into a single spot of the stone for a few days and you will get an pin sized indentation. Put sand in the indentation and work it into the stone with the needle. After a few weeks the hole will be all the way through!
