What is my 1865 silver dollar worth?

Whats the value of an 1865 washington silver dollar?

  • I have an 1865 coin that looks just like a quarter from the back and the front. and on the back it says dollar. How do I know how much its worth. Ive looked everywhere. And was wondering if anyone knows a really good person to sell the coin to. If its worth anything.

  • Answer:

You have a Seated Liberty Dollar. Seated liberty dollars were designed by Christian Gobrecht. They were minted from 1840-1873. Does your coin look like this one? http://worldcoingallery.com/countries/img4/US-1d840.jpg The year 1865 had a mintage of 46,500. If your coin grades VG-8 (very good) then its value would be around $250. If graded fine then its value would be around $300.Does your coin look better than the one I have a link to? If I were you I wouldn't sell your coin because the value will go up in the future. I hope this information helps answer your question. EDIT** Does it look like this one. You said it looked like a quarter, this looks like a token of a sort, this is the only one I could find that matched your description. If it looks like this one I doubt that it has much value. http://cgi.ebay.com/1865-LIBERTY-ONE-DOLLAR_W0QQitemZ320147480567QQihZ011QQcategoryZ11953QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting

There were no coins minted in 1865 with a bust of George Washington on the obverse (front) and on the reverse (back) an eagle with spread wings. You must have a medal or token of some kind. There must be more legends on it than what are on a quarter. In order to figure out just what you have, you need to go to a coin dealer or send me a high quality image of both sides. The dollars minted in 1865 have a full length view of Liberty seated with a shield at her left and a hat on a pole to her right. The reason you are having trouble fining it, is due to the fact it is not a coin, finding medals and tokens at least so far on the web is not easy.

It depends on the condition, but you definitely have a valuable silver dollar. It is worth: in good condition $240 in fine condition $600 in very fine $800
