How do you remove clay correctly from a mold?

Metal Clay Silicone Mold Transfer Image?

  • Metal Clay & Fingerprint Jewelry: If I was to first cast a fingerprint in a Silicon Mold, how do I then transfer / make in imprint in the Metal Clay? (vs. skipping the silicon mold & making the fingerprint impression directly in the metal clay – because I want time to correctly place the print & not have to be stressed over the baby not cooperating). Can you pour something (liquid like) into the mold & make a stamp like & imprint it into the metal clay? Or, do you need to do Photopolymer & create an actual rubber stamp. Or, something else I’m not aware of? Thanks!

  • Answer:

You could pour plaster of Paris into the mould to create an exact replica of whatever you pushed into the silicon. Plaster picks up detail really well, just be careful not to get when you mix it. Another option would be casting resin.
