How To Do Entrelac Crochet?

How do I follow this crochet pattern?

  • I'm new to crocheting but for Christmas I wanted to make my baby sister a hat, so How do I do this? I know how to crochet, I'm just a bit wary as to how I follow the instructions. http://www.allcrafts.net/fjs.htm?url=crochetpatternsonly.blogspot.com/2007/02/crochet-baby-cherry-hat.html Gauge: 4 & 1/2 stitches per inch. --------------------------------------… Do Not join rounds. You will just hide both yarn ends inside the cherry. No stuffing needed. Cherries: With Red yarn, chain 2. Round 1: 4 single crochet in second chain from hook. Round 2: 2 single crochet in each stitch around. (8 single crochet) Round 3: Single crochet 1 round even. ( 8 single crochet) Round 4 Single crochet 2 stitches together around. ( 4 single crochet) Cut leaving the yarn end long enough to gather these 4 stitches together by weaving the yarn end in and out through one loop of each stitch. Pull tight and hide end inside cherry.

  • Answer:

This pattern consists of 3 parts. First are the cherries. By telling you not to join rounds, she wants you to spiral the crochet which is what happens when you just keep stitching around in a circle. Joining usually means using a slip stitch and then you have to add a stitch to jump up to the next row. What you are trying to do is to create a pocket which is sewn shut. So you make your 2 chains. Then use your hook to make 4 single crochet in the loop furthest from your hook, the slip knot you made to start. Don't turn your work but just keep going into the next stitch. The next round is 8 single crochet 2 each in each existing stitch which will make your work become more circular and begin to curve in on itself - shaping the ball. Depending on where your starting string is you may want to pop it inside out to capture the starting string. On the next round start the single crochet first loop in one stitch and do the second loop in the next stitch, then use those two loops to finish the stitch - two stitches decrease to one. Cut your yarn and using a tapestry / yarn needle close up the small ball that you have created. Hope this helps, happy holidays.
