How to remove a stain on Aida fabric?
-
I'm currently working on a cross stitch design on Aida fabric. The picture is nearly finished and I've noticed a stain on the fabric right next to the stitches. I want to frame the picture and the stain would be seen through the glass as it's so close to the picture. Could anyone suggest a way to remove the stain that wont damage the stitches or the Aida fabric itself? Unfortunately I have no idea what sort of stain it is! It appeared from nowhere!

Answer:
Do you wash your pieces when you are finished with them? I usually wash mine before framing, and any oils or other assorted marks left by stuff on my fingers usually comes right out. Wash it in cold or warm water (to avoid too much shrinkage) with a gentle detergent and it should come right out. If the stain persists, you can go to your local craft shop and find a suitable stain remover. Good luck!

All of my projects are able to be hand cleaned. You might try spraying some lightly soapy water on the stain and try to blot out the stain. Otherwise you mightbe able to soak it in warm sudsy water, rinse and lay flat on a towel to dry. Do not wring it out or stretch the fabric while handling it.

Take it to a dry cleaners when you are done stitching. I have had them work magic on some of mine, and they press it to boot. Only costs a few dollars.

These stains often come from your hand care products. Or maybe from your hoop.If you use a hoop, clean it with alcohol or mild detergent to avoid stains. Clean Aida with cool water and a very mild detergent. Do not wring Aida out.

I used a mild Oxy solution to wash my tapestry when it was done. Just remember to dry it flat.

Finish off your x-stitch,when completed, soak the finished work in a mild washing up liquid, soap powder or a stain removing solution.Try not to rub the material too hard, fingers crossed the stain should have gone. Dry naturally, iron between two t-towels,to stop the iron from flattening the stitches.

If you have any spare fabric or string left, you could try which stain removers won't harm it. Try supermarket stain removers or vinegar.
