go back to the doctor....side effects of anti biotics are they destroy the 8th crainal nerve which is not good.

It sounds like she has a resistent bacterial infection. It doesn't sound viral because there is no concurrent viral infection. Take her to a DIFFERENT doctor (i.e. her general practioner). Tell him/her she has had recurrent ear infections. Maybe a different antibiotic is needed. It could be a staph ear infection which is harder to cure. I would definently get this looked at. For pain relief in the meantime: Use a warm pack, "bed buddy" (something you warm up in the microwave), or a hot towel...have her lay it on the ear that hurts...possibly sleep on that side with it up against the ear. This will help drain the fluid which is causing the pain. It will NOT get rid of the bacteria but will ease the discomfort. Then, she can switch ears. Also, she can take NSAIDs (like Advil) or Tyelenol (depending on her other medical conditions). Aspirin may also help.

She needs to get back to the Dr. If the infection responded some to anti-biotics but didn't clear it up completely they need to give her a stronger antibiotic to work on the infection. It sounds like she may have got something that has built up a tolorance to the medication they orrigionally put her on. If they pain is that bad they should be able to give her some numbing drops for her ears till the swelling reduces. If they haven't helped her yet, you may want to see another Dr. for this visit if more than one work in the office.
