Why do scientists study animals migration?

Do you use a microwave? If so, how frequently (scary study)?

  • (The question above/below was posted by someone who has excluded many intelligent and interesting people on this forum from answering. This is a chance for everyone (as I block no one) to answer.) what do you think of this excerpt of a compelling and scary study? "Andreas finishes up with a chilling story which I'll paraphrase. Russian scientists took thousands of healthy cats, and gave them nothing but nutritious and natural foods that had been heated in a microwave for just 1 minute. The result? In six months, all the cats were dead. When the scientists performed autopsies on some of the cats, they found that the animals had literally starved to death. The cells in their bodies contained no trace of nutrient components, even though the dead bodies looked well-fed. "Microwaves had turned their food into deadly poison."" http://owen.curezone.com/healing/trashmi%E2%80%A6 Years ago, I attended a class where the speaker talked and handed out papers on how microwaves change the molecular structure of foods and create chemicals never before seen on this planet. that and other info convince me to stop or reduce its use as I was like many Americans in the habit of using it. I quit the microwave except for a a couple times a year for many years helped by keeping it in a room far from the kitchen. then my apartment remodeled and built in microwaves over the stove and I started using it quite a bit more. When I moved my old one broke and I replaced it with a new one..in the kitchen..but only used it a few times in the past 2 years. I bought a turbo cooker from mercola and used a lot and rarely used my stove oven anymore due to turbo cooker being quicker (I think I used oven once or twice in the past 3 months) but now have not used the turbo cooker either hardly in 6 months as I do not cook that much except on the stove top as eating more raw foods. But is that cat study something or what.... reminds me of the Pottenger Cat study but do you use a microwave and if so, how often and will this info cause you to change that habit or not.

This is the usual fear-mongering, ignorant crap that these Luddite alt meddies love to crap out. Ooooh, shiny metal object! I have no idea how it works so I make stuff up! To the original poster of this question, unblock me so I can properly school you on how the real world works. Do it! C'mon, what are you afraid of? edit: Anyone else notice this question has more answers than the lame original post?

Ah, from Mercola. We know what level of crank we are dealing with. All a microwave does is cook food by rotating water molecules which generates friction. The fact very few people understand how they work leads to crap like this. Also, they probably fed those cats "all natural" vegetables. Cats are pure carnivores. They cannot digest plant matter. Their diet killed them. Edit: Routers run at the same frequency as most microwaves (they can interfere with wireless easily). Their entire point is to "leak" radiation.

I'll repost my previous answer. Russian studies, if you can call them that, are filled with inconsistencies. Besides, if the government is mandating the removal of trans-fats from restaurants, you think they would do the same for microwaves if they were that dangerous. That is, unless the "microwave" lobby has more power than I realize

Dave thank you for posting this question, now onward to attempting to answer it. I cannot think that anyone on Earth could believe a word of this! "microwaves change the molecular structure of foods and create chemicals never before seen on this planet." This may just be the most ridiculous, ludicrous statement ever written. No part of it has any root in reality it's pure science fiction at it's worst! I would challenge anyone on Earth to come up with any PROOF for any of this, but I doubt that anyone who would believe this garbage even know what mass spectrometer is. A microwave agitates water molecules in food. That's all it does.

The usual load of non-scientific rubbish. Studies out of Russia are notoriously of dubious quality, and Russian science is still plagued by a lot of pseudo-scientific ideology. (their biological and genetic science programs were held back decades because of Lysenko, for example) Anyone who believes this tripe doesn't understand what microwaves are, and how they work to cook food. Microwaves simply cause molecules to vibrate, and essentially be friction to heat up and cook food. They are not energetic enough to alter DNA for example...which is why we also know that cell phones can't cause cancer even in theory. Robert Parks is a physicist who has written extensively debunking fearmongering about microwave radiation.

"Years ago, I attended a class where the speaker talked and handed out papers on how microwaves change the molecular structure of foods and create chemicals never before seen on this planet." Yeah, right, everyone has got a Hadron Collider in their kitchen. Idiot.

Thankyou for posting, Dave. These people basically don't understand science, there no reason why microwaves should be harmful and there is no convincing evidence to suggest it is.

I ditched microwaves several years ago. They're not worth the risk. Food heated, much less cooked in them tastes *almost* like food... Here's a little test experiment for you: heat a cup/sufficient amount of water in the microwave for 1-2 minutes. Let it cool. Water a presently healthy plant with it. Repeat for 3-4 regular waterings. See what happens. Russia is way ahead of the rest of the world in sports medicine and a number of other fields. Their research was never compromised by the limited financial interests of a few companies as it has been in most Western countries. As usual, someone is very ill-informed to suggest otherwise.

Mine gets used everyday. Someone is always heating something up in it. We try not to heart anything up in plastic though.

Probably use a microwave 4/5 times a week, have done for 20+ years, and its done me no harm, or at least i think it hasn't
