Answer:
Vertigo and inner ear infections can be very serious. It can be treated with antibiotics or not depending on the severity. Here is a page or 3 of them that tells you all you need to know. If you have this infection read the page and it will answer all your questions. Also it does talk about children but it is the same for adults. http://www.ehealthmd.com/library/middleear/MEI_whatis.html

antibiotics and it can last a week, ask for antivert, if you dont get it treated and it spreads it can kill you so dont mess with it, the inner auditory meatus is porus and can trap an infection which can lead to the brain

I experience ear aches accompanied with vertigo just before I get a case of flu. There are various reasons for this. My mom had this and it finally passed after 2 months - no flu. Dr. said it was a virus, not infection (I had an exam). But at least I get a little warning before illness is full blown. Not a pleasant feeling though.

Take some across the counter Sinus medication. It will dry your sinuses and the Eustachian tube that runs from your ear to your throat. It should help. Ibuprofen should help, it is for inflammation and swelling. Your ear probably has some fluid and swelling. When the stirrup in the ear touches anything it causes the vertigo. Good Luck, it is a real pain in the neck. My Husband has always had a tremendous amount of hearing and ear infection problems. Tinnitus=noise the the ears and Menneires=PROFOUND VERTIGO.

When i was born i had chronic ear infectins until i was 12 years old . Moist heat really helps. Take an old tube sock ffill it full of dried beans or rice. tie the end and put it in the microwave for 3 minutes and leave it on your ear until it gets warm. You can store it the freezer till you need it again also good for neck pain and anything else . can be used cold or hot.

Infections usually antibiotics. Other caused can be muscles that are too tight causing pressure where it produces the same effect. For more read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
