Christians: When you say you are saved, what are you saved from exactly?

Really though, why do "Christians" say we have to "accept" Christ to be saved?

  • Where in the Bible does it say that? I need verses. How can we be saved by simply accepting Him? What about God's statement of predestination? How do you fit your idea of "accepting" with predestination (yes, this idea IS in the Bible)? To me, it seems we've been conditioned or taught by pastors, elders, etc that we are to accept. We rely on their "expertise" so we don't bother reading the Bible ourselves.

  • Answer:

The Lord himself affirms that Baptism is necessary for salvation. Baptism is the sacrament of faith. But faith needs the community of believers. It is only within the faith of the Church that each of the faithful can believe. The faith required for Baptism is not a perfect and mature faith, but a beginning that is called to develop. Through Baptism the Christian is sacramentally assimilated to Jesus, who in his own baptism anticipates his death and resurrection. The Christian must enter into this mystery of humble self-abasement and repentance, go down into the water with Jesus in order to rise with him, be reborn of water and the Spirit so as to become the Father's beloved son in the Son and walk in newness of life.

John 3:16 God Bless!! Believe in Him - That Jesus died on the cross and rose again thats how you receive everlasting life. Thanks Gnostic I love you!! God Bless!! Exactly in preparation. Without him dieing for our sins we would not have nothing to believe in God showed us through him he is real and if we ask him he will forgive us of our sins if we dont accept him then how can we be forgiven? God Bless!! We should be a team!!

Matthew 10:32 “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven." Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 1 Timothy 6:12 Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

On top of what everyone else has said, I'll just add this. Do you think you or anyone else in this world needs saved? What could God's purpose be in offering salvation? Would he offer it if it wasn't needed? Then you come to the question why are we here? Do we exist just to exist or is there some purpose for your life? These questions only you can answer. It isn't something God is forcing on anyone. Whether you believe in Jesus or not is up to you. No one can tell you. If you seek the truth, the information is in the Bible and the other books that were removed from the Bible. Seek and you shall find...

Schneb got most of them, but it is not the "Christians" who are saying it, it is Jesus Himself! "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No man comes to the Father but by Me." John 14:6

ONE Faith, Many Religions - There are many religions (as an example - Gal.1:13 below), but one faith (Eph.4:5 below). Eph.4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism, When we are baptized into Christ by the Holy Spirit we BECOME a “new creature” (2 Cor.5:17, Gal.6:15 below). We become, individually, as well as collectively, the living body of Christ (Col.1:24 below). We become the church of God (1 Cor.10:32 below, 1 Cor.1:2, 1 Cor.15:9, Gal.1:13), the one faith (Eph.4:5 above). 2 Cor.5:17Therefore if any man be in Christ, he IS a new creature (Gal.6:15 below): old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. Gal.6:15For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision, but a new creature (2 Cor.5:17 above). Col.1:24Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for His body's sake, which IS the church (1 Cor.10:32, Gal. I:13, 1 Cor.1:2). 1 Cor.10:32Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God (Eph.2:16 below). Eph.2:16 And that he might reconcile BOTH (Jew and Gentile - 1 Cor.10:32 above) unto God in one body (the church of God - 1 Cor.10:32 above) by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby: Gal.1:13For ye have heard of my (Paul's) conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God (1 Cor.10:32 above), and wasted it. Accept is just a word that helps explain the process. In Matthew 10:32-33 Jesus said, "Whoever acknoledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my father in heaven." This could be construed as acceptance. Don't get hung up on words. Romans 10:9-10 If you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. Romans 8:28-30 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him who have been called according to His purpose. For those God foreknew He also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those He predestined, He also called; those He called, He also justified; those He justified, He also glorified. You see, God knows everything in advance before it is going to happen. He knows the time and date of the first time I gave my life to Him, accepted His Son as my personal Savior. He also knew that later I would rebel and turn away from Him for many years. Then, He also knew the very day, hour, minute, & second that I would return to Him. It was predestined by Him. He even knows the day and time I will die. The thing is, we can argue over obscure wording, or we can spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. To accept is the opposite of disown, so if we accept Jesus, then we are acknowledging that He is Lord as mentioned in the above verses.

Nowhere. It doesn't. The Christian doctrine is unbiblical. Very nice, NOVA... John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. "believeth" what? I believeth that Jesus is a butterfly, do I go to heaven? ### I love you too NOVA you know that but notice the small detail that Jesus sent his guys out to "preach the gospel of God" (((before)) any cross? Therefore Christ's gospel cannot have anything to do with dying on a cross. Nice?

Accept is just a way to convey willingness. So, what you should look for is the word "willing" in the scripture, and you will find what is meant when you hear the word "accept." For EXAMPLE: Matthew 23:37 "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were ****not willing****. Lets put this question to a vote, and see which one of these great answers wins. What do you say?
