What's the difference between geology and earth sciences?

Has the 'Earth Sciences and Geology' area of this site become overun with Bible bashers?

  • Anyone else sick of people asking you to proove that God exists or that Evolution actually occoured? or any of these other stupid ideas? They have thier own 'section' under Religion, why do they ahve to pollute the Geolgoy and Earth Science one? thankyou

  • Answer:

I've learned to avoid answering those questions. The askers never really want a scientific or factual answer. They are simply trolls and bigots. They almost always choose an answer that fits their agenda of dismissing science. I used to waste a lot of time and effort answering questions about Carbon-14 dating, and how it has nothing to do with dating the age of the Earth, or with supporting the Theory of Evolution- but the askers always preferred an answer that claimed C-14 was hooey, especially if the answer contained really technical words like stupid hooey. Debating with them is like tilting windmills. At some point you have to conclude that some people have no interest in knowledge or in understanding nature, and trying to convince them otherwise just raises my blood pressure and shortens my own life. I have noticed a few prominent answerers in this section who regularly ask questions in the religion section, in an attempt to understand why so many appear to believe in Young Earth Creationism and why they so seriously misunderstand the science behind evolution, the Big Bang, etc. Apparently science is not taught well in quite a few schools today. The most amazing thing to me has been how common the acceptance of Young Earth Creationism actually is. Until spending time here, I thought the idea died in the 1960's, about the same time the KKK faded away and the race to put a man on the moon got every kid interested in science. Apparently ignorance has its loyal adherents (I call them the ignorance-is-bliss crowd), and I wonder if that is reflected in national and world politics. I'm not sure if Religion or Science has failed us, but it is amazing that such 19th century ideas can exist in the age of the internet, which is very much a product of the science that debunked creationism. I am especially annoyed by the term "Evolutionists" because whenever you see it used it comes with a preconceived set of prejudice and bigotry. The people who are called evolutionists almost never call themselves that, but prefer terms like biologist, paleontologist, etc. Apparently this distinction is too complicated for the Young Earthers to comprehend. There is no such thing as an evolutionist outside of the spin-vocabulary of the Creationists.

Yes.If they want to talk about God,they should go do it in their own section!

If the Bible thumpers would stop listening to religious charletans, and thinking that they know more than thousands of trained professionals, then no one would feel the desire to "bash" the Bible.

I think the most interesting thing to see how the Bible has evolved through time.....

amen... science is the only true religion, except you need no faith for science.

I agree with you! Religion and science don´t mix very well and should keep apart with each other!

Hi. You're right. Religion and Science can not possible have people that believe in both. As to the Evolutionists, nature will weed them out all on it's own.

They think they are missionaries coming to save the lost souls. Jump over to R&S, you can turn the questions on their heads, and have a good laugh at the same time.

I am very religious. I also am a science teacher. You can believe in both. Evolution is a very believable theory. We are finding out more and more that it is very likely fact. I think eventually evolution will back up the Biblical story. Ex. At one point in evolution the human gene pool funneled down to a very few gene types. Could that be the result of Noah's Arc? I don't has the answers, but I think they will some day. Big Bang theory- How could nothing explode and cause the creation of the universe?
