PLEASE AT LEAST ANSWER ONE QUESTION!!!

  • Answer:

1/ The single most cause of fatalities in an earthquake is structure failure and being crushed to death. 2/ Aside from spending thousands of dollars in reinforcing your home, best bet is to get out of the house ASAP or invest in a big sturdy table that can fit the family beneath. 3/ flashlight, battery radio, emergency food rations, fresh water 4/ make sure the fire extinuisher can deal with electrical and gas fires 5/ Have an emergency meeting area such as under a tree so you can account for all family members.

You could try using your imagination. The biggest danger in the home is things falling on you or collapsing on you. Large bookcases and other tall units should be fixed to the walls. You do not want a heavy water tank in the roof over your living areas, and it is better to have a timber home than brick or other brittle material. A steel roof is much safer than tiles in an Earthquake zone, and you would be better off in a single storey home. You need a plan to be know where best to move when the shaking starts - like under the sturdiest part of the structure. Only evacuate completely if the street has not got high buildings that can collapse on you, or overhead power lines that can come down on you. You need to store water for at least three days, as water lines may break. Also have some canned food, a camping cooker, and a first aid kit.

Hi there.... As far as earthquake hazards, it largely depends on the construction of the home itself. Obviously there's danger in that ceilings and roofs could potentially collapse into the structure itself. If the house is built on the side of a ridge, you have the potential of the support beams weakening and causing the whole house to slide down the hill. The earthquake damage can cause live electric wires to become exposed, and if the house has natural gas, there is a danger of explosion due to breaks and cracks in the gas line. As far as things to do to reduce the amount of damage or personal injury, there's not much you'll be able to do to limit property damage outside of making sure valuables are secure. You can bolt especially large pieces of furniture to the walls (curio cabinets, entertainment centers and the like). As far as keeping injuries to a minimum, the best place to be during an earthquake is in a doorway. The framework helps minimize the danger of collapsing ceilings and roofs. Hope this helps!
